Always keep your login ID, password or PIN confidential and never write it down anywhere or store it on the computer. Change your password or PIN regularly and avoid predictable passwords such as birthdates, or names.
Always ensure that the URLs (Universal Resource Locaters) of the website begin with "https" and look out for a display of a closed padlocked symbol on the status bar of your browser. Always enter the URL of the website directly into the web browser and avoid being redirected to a website or hyperlink to it from a website that may not be as secure.
Install a personal firewall and a reputable anti-virus programme that is always up-to-date and runs at all times. Always keep your operating system and web browser updated with the latest security patches for extra protection.
Never download any file or software from unfamiliar sites or sources as these files may expose your computer system to a virus which may hijack your password or PIN. Scan received programmes or attachments with an updated anti-virus software to ensure it doesn’t contain any dangerous viruses.
Always log off from the Internet banking site when you’ve completed your transactions or even if you need to leave your computer for a short while. Remember to also clear the memory cache and transaction history after logging out to remove account information stored in your computer.
Do not send any password or PIN via ordinary email
Do not have other browser windows open while banking online
Avoid using shared or public computers to do banking online
Disable the “file and printer sharing” feature on your operating system
